There are different ways to approach wildlife control depending on the problem you face. There are situations when we may need to remove the animals first before we can perform a service. But the key for most animal control is prevention, with a process known as exclusion. By sealing all entry points, animals can no longer enter a property and are forced to find new homes or food elsewhere.

We do not use poisons or anything that causes slow death, as this may cause the animals to die on a property and lead to severe odors and health issues.

In some cases, you may find yourself requiring removal of a dead animal that has died on you property. The cost depends on the location of the animal the type of animal, and how long ago it has died. Animals that die inside of walls or under the foundation may require more than animals that have died in an easy to access location. We’re happy to provide a quote when you’re ready.

Learn more about how to get rid of raccoons here.

It’s not that difficult to tell whether you have a raccoon problem. They’re larger than other mammal wildlife pests like squirrels or rats and evidence of their presence is usually more apparent. Some of these signs include:

  • Bent or broken vents
  • Holes in drywall and siding
  • Dirt or scratch marks
  • Droppings similar in size and smell to dog droppings
  • Chittering or screeching noises
  • Spilled or tipped over garbage cans.
  • Higher activity late at night or early in the morning

Like rodents, they chew electrical wires and move around primarily in the attic, fireplace, or walls. Unlike them, raccoons often make loud thumping noises while playing like they’re holding a wrestling match. Raccoons are nocturnal, but if they’re hiding on your property they may still be awake if encountered during the day.

NOTE: Raccoons should rarely be seen walking around during the day. If you ever see a raccoon that appears to be outdoors comfortably during daylight hours, please stay away as it may have a disease known as “dumb rabies.”

Learn more about how to get rid of raccoons here.

Raccoons are intelligent and omnivorous, which often makes removing them and taking preventive steps a bit more challenging than other pest species. Two main factors are usually involved when raccoons are looking for a place to stay:

  • Food – Raccoons will eat almost anything from both natural and urban environments, such as birds, vegetables, fruit, frogs, eggs, pet food, insects, and more. They are especially fond of trash, which is often so willingly left out for them to feast.
  • Shelter – Human structures in general are similar to the hollow logs they live in in the wild and protect them from most predators and harsh weather. If they can fit their head through a hole, they can fit the rest of themselves in.

Making sure your property isn’t attractive to raccoons is essential to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for you and anyone else who visits or inhabits it. Some of the most notable types of damage raccoons can cause include:

  • Property Damage – Raccoons like to destroy insulation by urinating, defecating, and ripping it up for nests. They also chew on electrical wires, scratch at AC unit duct work, and more.
  • Disease Transmission To Humans – Roundworm eggs in raccoon poop can survive a long time and be airborne which makes it much easier for them to spread.
  • Disease Transmission To Pets – Mange and canine distemper.
  • Parasite Transmission – Fleas, mites, and ticks.

Some signs of rabies include difficulty walking, choking, excessive drooling, or unusual aggression. Raccoons aren’t necessarily rabid if they’re active during the day or not afraid of people. Though they’re nocturnal they often forage for food during the day as well, and raccoons that live in urban areas are used to the presence of people. Since they’re wild animals, you should still avoid them.

The cost for this service varies depending on the details of each individual case. We should be able to provide you with a better idea of what addressing your raccoon problem will cost once we know more about it.

We can provide specific prevention techniques for your case, but in general the best way to keep your property from attracting raccoons is to seal off food sources like trash cans, bird feeders, and outdoor pet food containers. You should also block entry into your property by repairing any holes or weak areas.

Learn more about how to get rid of bats here.

Bats themselves are incredibly important animals, which is why we have such a strong focus on humane wildlife control. They’re great at controlling insect populations and for the most part don’t even come into contact with humans since they prefer to avoid us. However, there are some risks associated with bats, including:

  • Histoplasmosis – Fungi found in bat droppings can infect the lungs, causing serious flu-like symptoms. This is the primary risk of close proximity to bats, and why it is so important to remove them from your property.
  • Rabies – It is possible for bats to contract and transmit rabies, but they typically die from it before spreading it to humans and other animals. Still if you come into contact with a bat, even if you’re not sure that you’ve been bitten or scratched, seek immediate medical treatment.
  • Property Damage – Bat droppings and guano can cause significant damage to the area they live in, and require intensive cleaning to prevent the spread of parasites and fungi like histoplasmosis found in their waste.

That is why if you find bats on your property, it is so important to have it removed as fast as possible. The longer that bats are on the property, the more the risk of damage and illness increases.

No. Bat houses are great for providing shelter to bats that have been displaced. Unfortunately, if a colony has already decided to make your attic or other part of your property home, there’s little incentive for them to leave it and move into the bat house.

Learn more about how to get rid of bats here.

No. Only a handful of bat species in the world drink blood. They’re located in Central and South America, and even those tend to drink blood from livestock animals. Most bats in North America eat insects and have no interest in humans.

Not necessarily, it’s probably just resting. Bats don’t fly all night long, they often stop to rest before heading back out for more insects. If you’re concerned the bat came from your attic, go outside at dusk and watch your roof to see if any bats are going in or coming out.

Bats are typically more active in the warmer months and don’t tend to fly much when it’s rainy or cold. You’re more likely to notice the presence of an unusual amount of bats in the summer and spring, then.

Squirrels are often harmless away from a property, but inside of the property they can cause a lot of trouble. Squirrels can carry some diseases and parasites that are transmittable to humans, such as ringworm and fleas. However, they do the most damage to the building they’re inhabiting, chewing on wiring, urinating on and ripping up insulation for nests, and tearing holes in siding and roofs.

It’s also not uncommon for juveniles or adults who have just gotten lost or stuck somewhere in the walls to die inside the building, creating a horrible smell that’s difficult to eliminate. But the property damage isn’t just annoying, it can be dangerous. For example, the frayed wiring they’ve chewed the insulation could potentially start a fire. This is why rapid squirrel control is so important.

Squirrels themselves tend to be less visible than other pest species since they like to live in areas out of sight of people. But there are number of signs to watch for. These include:

  • Scratching or rustling sounds in the walls or attic – Squirrels typically nest in these areas and are most active in the mornings and evenings.
  • Lots of squirrels around outside – These animals are abundant in most places, but if they’re nesting in your building you’ll see even more of them than usual.
  • Chewing damage – Squirrels chew siding, vents, insulation, wires, and more. You may find this damage both inside and outside of a property.
  • Squirrel droppings – Squirrel feces can look very similar to other animals, like mice and rats. But if you find any of these kind of droppings, pest control is probably needed.

In general, squirrels tend to prefer higher-up areas in buildings, like attics, where they can easily access nearby trees. If you suspect squirrels are in your building, checking up there is a good idea, as is checking your HVAC and any water pipes that may be up there for evidence of chewing.

Trimming tree branches back at least 10 feet from your roof is perhaps the easiest and most effective way of keeping squirrels out of your building. This way they won’t be able to reach the roof and find a way in from there.

There are no known safe and effective forms of squirrel repellant available. Most traditional methods like mothballs, flashing lights, and ultrasonic sound have no effect. The best way to keep squirrels out is have a pest control professional squirrel-proof your building.

No. There may be squirrels still inside, and if they can’t get back outside they’ll die in your building. This will smell horrible and be even more difficult to remove than a live squirrel.

Even if you find the hole the squirrels are using to get into your building, the nests themselves can be difficult to find. Without knowledge of these animal habits you could injure yourself, overlook juveniles while removing the adults, improperly squirrel-proof your building, or make any number of other mistakes that could just cause further damage.

Gray squirrels, the most common squirrel species in Florida and Georgia, are diurnal and therefore most active during the day, particularly in the morning and evening. If you hear the scratching and gnawing sounds the most during the day, you’re probably dealing with squirrels. Rats are nocturnal and more active at night.

Learn more about how to get rid of possums here.

It can depend based on individual cases. The technician addressing your possum problem can give you a rough estimate of how long it will take to remove the possums on your property. However, it typically doesn’t take long. In fact, the animal may move on by itself if you are careful to remove any food sources. They’re nomadic and don’t tend to stay long in an area without any food readily nearby. But keep in mind that even if an opossum left, others may come back if your home is not property secured.

Learn more about how to get rid of possums here.

No. They do sometimes hunker down somewhere to wait out particularly bad or cold weather, and may choose your basement or other area of your building to do this. This is why it’s important to implement possum preventive measures year-round.

Learn more about how to get rid of possums here.

No. You should never approach a wild animal no matter the time of day, but even primarily nocturnal animals like possums sometimes forage for food during the day. Cool and overcast days especially increases your chances of seeing one during the day.

Learn more about how to get rid of possums here.

Yes. They aren’t very bold or aggressive animals, but they are attracted to the greater amount of food sources that can be found in areas with higher human populations. They are also very common in larger cities and urban areas.

Different birds cause different behaviors, which is why the situations that cause each one to be problematic are unique to each species. Pigeons are one of the most common calls we receive for our bird wildlife control services in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. These birds tend to leave the most droppings and be aggressive in their desire for food and shelter.

While there are some pests that are excellent at hiding and tend to cause damage in secret, pigeons – along with most other birds – are more apparent, with signs and symptoms of bird invasions that include:

  • Droppings – White-brown in color, and usually relatively firm.
  • Large Groups of Birds – Pigeons are very adaptive so their flocks tend to be pretty large, especially when they’ve found a good place roost and nest.
  • Increase in Debris Around Building – Pigeons make nests out of twigs, leaves, even garbage, and their construction process isn’t very tidy.

For the property owner, birds like pigeons are a problem when they invade in large groups, steal food, leave droppings, steal trash, or disrupt the customer experience. Birds of all kinds tend to live and visit where they are most comfortable, so if they find what they need near your property they are very likely to come back for more.

Why Birds like Pigeons Can Be Dangerous

Pigeons are infamous for the large flocks they stay in and the sizeable messes of debris and feces they often leave behind after spending any time in one area. Pigeon feces is acidic, degrading a structure’s appearance and material. High amounts of it in a busy area can be a slipping hazard for those on foot.

There are less visible threats that pigeon feces contains too, including a number of transmittable diseases that include:

  • Histoplasmosis
  • Salmonella
  • Cryptococcosis
  • Toxoplasmosis, and more

The birds themselves can also spread parasites like mites, lice, and fleas, which if infected can spread diseases themselves, like Lyme’s disease. Other birds in Atlanta may also build nests on properties, or make loud noises at all hours of the day. With so many different types of birds, there are many different experiences that property owners may face.

Yes. Depending on what’s possible with your property, we have other ways of keeping pigeons (and other birds) out of areas in your building and discouraging them from landing on it in the first place. Bird netting and repellent in the form of gels or pastes are several frequently used options.

Not in the long term. It can startle them away for a little while, but eventually they realize that the balloons or models aren’t doing anything, and the appeal of a good roosting site to rest in or food or water is too strong not to check the area out again.

Our ability to trap and remove birds may depend on wildlife rules and regulations for their species. Since pigeons aren’t native to North America, it’s generally legal for us to trap and re-release them. However, it’s not the most effective method of treating a pigeon problem since they can and do easily find their way back. Making your property inhospitable to them so that they voluntarily leave is our primary way of solving the issue.

Cost is determined on a number of factors for each case, and as such it’s difficult to give one flat price that will accurately reflect the cost of each situation. Your technician can give you a good idea of what your case will cost after they’re more familiar with the challenges of your property.
