We all naturally feel a disgust for roaches. It’s normal to associate them with uncleanliness. But cockroaches are not just “gross.” They’re also a health concern, contributing to allergy and breathing issues and potentially spreading disease. That’s why it’s so important to learn how to get rid of roaches on your property by calling a local pest control company you can trust.
While it is an exaggeration that cockroaches could survive a nuclear apocalypse, roaches are still highly resistant to pest control. They spread easily, breed quickly, and are difficult to kill, able to live several days without a head and weeks/months without food. It is not enough to offer one type of pest control. Those struggling with roaches should choose a company with many techniques and careful, thorough service.
Nextgen Pest Solutions has been providing professional pest control for years, and is focused on not only cockroach extermination, but using only the latest and most effective science-backed techniques. Our roach services include one time eliminations and ongoing protection, and can be used at any property. For a free, no obligation quote, give us a call at any time.
Smokey-Brown Cockroach (Periplaneta fuliginosa)
Characteristics of Cockroaches
Cockroaches are a resilient pest, able to survive under extreme weather conditions and go without food and water for long periods of time. They are related to termites, although they are generally larger, commonly measuring up to 2 inches depending on the species. There are over 4,600 types of cockroaches in the world, but only five are typically considered pests. These are:
German Cockroaches – Light brown and measuring up to one half inch, this is one of the most aggressive roach species in terms of pests. They live indoors, preferring warm and humid conditions, and hide within walls. They do have wings but cannot fly and instead run quickly. They are most effectively treated with baits that passes poison to offspring through fecal matter.
American Cockroaches – With reddish-brown wings and between 1 and 2 inches, American cockroaches generally live about one year. They can spread quickly and female roaches can lay eggs without the presence of a male roach. Though they will eat anything, they generally live outside in hollow trees, wood piles, and dead logs.
Australian Cockroaches – These roaches are between 1 and 1.5 inches long with a light brown coloring, black spot, and yellow band. They thrive in warm and humid climates, especially with a lake or ocean nearby. When found in homes, they are usually located in attics and crawl spaces. They have wings and can fly well.
Brown-banded Cockroaches – As their name implies, they have two brown bands surrounding a light brown body. They are about half an inch long and have wings. These roaches live inside and feed off of human food, items that contain human skin cells and oil, glue, and any other organic matter. Unlike other roaches, they prefer drier locations and are found more often in living rooms and bedrooms.
Asian Cockroaches – Just over half an inch long and colored anywhere from tan to dark brown, Asian cockroaches generally live outside. They are attracted to light, however, and will enter a lit home to flock around lamps and TV screens. Asian roaches are aggressive towards other cockroaches, making them generally the only species in an area, and populations are known to grow up to 30,000 insects per acre. Currently, these roaches are found in only a few southern states.
Over time, roach infestations can cause serious health problems if left untreated. The buildup of feces and discarded skins can cause allergic reactions and respiratory issues, especially for those with asthma. They can also spread bacteria like salmonella and E coli. These bacteria attach to the roaches’ legs and can taint food and preparation surfaces as they move about.
Why Do I Have Roaches?
Cockroaches can infest nearly any structure, not just homes and businesses. They have been found in ships and even on airplanes. Like most pests, they often move into a place seeking food, water, and shelter. They’re commonly associated with cleanliness, but the presence of roaches does not necessarily mean a place is unclean. Almost any property can provide the small amount of water and food a roach needs to survive, which means that cleaning alone is rarely enough to prevent roaches.
An abundance of food and water can be more attractive to cockroaches, however. Improperly stored food, crumbs, and residue on counters and dishware can draw pests. A leaking faucet or pipe can provide a source of water. Addressing these issues can help, although not necessarily prevent, cockroaches on a property.
Many roaches will come to a place as hitchhikers. German cockroaches in particular often ride in on boxes, luggage, clothing, or furniture. Once there, they can begin to breed and spread.
Other species of cockroaches enter a place on their own by crawling through cracks, along sewer lines, and up from drains. Their ability to move along pipes makes it easy for them to move from place to place in apartments and hotels where they can spread throughout the building.
American Cockroach (Periplaneta americana)
One Time Cockroach Extermination Services
When you notice cockroaches around your home, you want to have them exterminated as quickly as possible. Vacuuming and sprays can kill some, but usually won’t eliminate the infestation. Cockroaches are mostly nocturnal and good at hiding, spending the day in small crevices, wall voids, and dark corners people can’t reach. Since roaches breed so quickly, missing any during an extermination means the infestation can simply come back.
To treat cockroaches, we start by identifying the species of the infestation. We then use the newest robust pesticides to eliminate every cockroach and egg on a property. Roaches are always evolving and building up tolerances to pesticides, so we constantly evolve our strategies and formulations as well. We know where cockroaches can hide and go through each property carefully to make sure none are missed during extermination.
Seasonal Roach Control Services
Effectively managing cockroaches is an ongoing process. While a one time extermination will have your property free of roaches in the short term, the pests can return in the future. Rather than wait for an infestation, seasonal pest control is the best way to eliminate roaches.
With seasonal pest control, we treat your property periodically using safe, modern pesticides to create a protective border that roaches cannot cross. Visits are made bimonthly depending on risk factors, and the long lasting pesticides will keep the property pest free in the meantime.
In addition to cockroaches, seasonal pest control also prevents other common pests such as flies, ants, spiders, fleas, ticks, earwigs, and more. Many property owners rely on ongoing pest control to keep their properties pest free and avoid costly and stressful infestations later on.
Commercial Roach Control Services
Roaches anywhere are unpleasant and unsafe, but a roach in a business can have serious consequences. They can turn away customers. They can violate health codes. A roach problem in your property can result in lost business, fines, and penalties. We work with all types of businesses for ongoing and one time roach control. Ongoing control is most effective as it prevents roaches from entering your building in the first place. Properties we serve include:
Restaurants
Retail Stores
Hotels
Factories
Warehouses
Hospitals, Schools, and More
For commercial properties, we have discreet and overnight services so that your customers won’t know you are receiving cockroach control services. We also have emergency 24 hour service available for immediate extermination needs.

Since cockroaches tend to hide during the day, you will likely see signs of an infestation before the roaches themselves. These signs can include droppings, egg containing capsules, shed skins, dark marks on walls, and chew marks on belongings. If you suspect cockroaches, a professional exterminator can confirm their presence.
Can I Handle Cockroaches On My Own?
There are over-the-counter sprays designed to kill or prevent cockroaches. However, roaches are so resilient and adaptable that these products are not always effective. Professional services and pesticides are the best option for both eliminating and preventing roaches.
How Much Does Cockroach Control Cost?
The total cost will depend on the service – one time or seasonal – as well as the type of roaches, the property, and the specific treatment needed. Rather than account for all those variables online, please give us a call so that we can give you an estimate that meets your needs.
How Quickly Can You Be Here?
We know you want to get rid of cockroaches as quickly as possible. With same day and next day services, we can be at your home quickly.
Is Roach Control Safe If I Have Children or Pets?
Yes. The newest pesticides, while fatal for roaches and other insects, are as safe as the table salt. Additionally, most seasonal pest control happens outside the home and away from your family, reducing your exposure even further.
What If I Still See Cockroaches After Service?
Since we guarantee all of our services for a certain timeframe, we will return for further treatment if you continue to see pests. We’ll always confirm the exact length of the guarantee for the treatment you’re receiving before service.
